BREAKING NEWS UPDATE: New Evidence Emerges in Tennessee Plane Crash That Killed Alabama Couple

Sparta, TN — April 29, 2025 — Authorities have revealed new evidence in the investigation of Saturday’s fatal plane crash near Upper Cumberland Regional Airport that claimed the lives of an Alabama couple and their pilot.

The victims, identified as Dylan Clay Davis and Kelsie Lynn Davis of Alabama, and pilot Jonathan Braun, perished when their single-engine Mooney M20TN aircraft crashed roughly one mile from the airport. The plane had departed from Shelby County Airport in Alabama and was nearing its destination when communication was lost with air traffic control.

New Evidence Comes to Light

According to a preliminary report released late Monday night by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), newly retrieved data from the aircraft’s GPS and engine monitor suggest the plane may have experienced a sudden loss of engine power moments before the crash. Investigators also discovered weather-related alerts indicating rapidly forming low-level clouds and possible wind shear along the final approach path.

Additionally, an emergency call attempted by the pilot moments before impact was partially recovered from air traffic recordings, in which Braun reportedly said, “Losing engine power… attempting emergency descent.”

Witnesses on the ground also reported hearing a “sputtering sound” from the aircraft’s engine seconds before the crash and observing the plane descending at a steep angle.

Investigation Ongoing

The FAA and NTSB continue to analyze engine components and the aircraft’s maintenance history. Toxicology reports for the pilot are also pending, though no evidence of foul play has been suggested at this stage.

“This new data is crucial in helping us piece together what happened during the final moments of the flight,” said an NTSB spokesperson. “While this information provides significant insight, it is still early in our investigation.”

The tragic crash has sent shockwaves through both the Alabama and Tennessee communities. Friends and family of the Davis couple described them as “inseparable and full of life.”

More updates are expected in the coming days as officials continue their examination of flight instruments, maintenance logs, and weather data.
