LaVar Arrington Donates $15 Million to Penn State Football, Honoring Coaches and Teammates

Happy Valley, PA – In a monumental show of gratitude and commitment to his alma mater, former Penn State linebacker LaVar Arrington has pledged a generous $15 million donation to the university’s football program. This historic contribution aims to enhance the resources available to current and future players, while honoring the coaches and teammates who played pivotal roles in shaping his illustrious college career.

Arrington, a two-time All-American and a consensus top pick in the 2000 NFL Draft, announced the donation during a heartfelt ceremony attended by former teammates, coaches, and Penn State officials. The funds will be used to upgrade training facilities, expand scholarship opportunities, and support academic programs for student-athletes.

“I wouldn’t be where I am today without Penn State football,” Arrington stated, visibly moved as he addressed the crowd. “The lessons I learned here, the bonds I formed with my coaches and teammates, and the values instilled in me during my time in Happy Valley have greatly influenced my life. I hope this contribution can provide the same opportunities and experiences for future generations of Nittany Lions.”

In his time at Penn State, Arrington became a household name, known for his explosive playing style and leadership on the field. He was instrumental in leading the Nittany Lions to a series of successful seasons and earned accolades that would pave the way for a stellar professional career in the NFL. His exceptional talent earned him induction into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2013.

Penn State head coach James Franklin praised Arrington’s generosity, stating, “LaVar embodies what it means to be a Nittany Lion. His commitment to our program and to our players is a testament to his character. This donation will greatly enhance our ability to provide an elite experience for our student-athletes and honor the legacy of greatness that LaVar and so many others have established at this university.”

The donation comes at a crucial time as college sports continue to evolve, and programs seek to enhance their competitiveness and welfare of student-athletes. University President Neeli Bendapudi expressed gratitude for Arrington’s generosity, noting the lasting impact on the Penn State community.

“This incredible gift will not only help our football program but will also enrich the lives of all student-athletes who walk through our doors,” Bendapudi said. “We are grateful for LaVar’s commitment to excellence and for setting a powerful example for our current students and athletes.”

As Penn State looks towards the future, Arrington’s inspiring gesture serves as a reminder of the deep-rooted connections forged in college athletics and the importance of investing in the next generation of leaders, athletes, and champions.
