Report: Washington transfer WR Johntay Cook commits to Syracuse

Washington transfer wide receiver Johntay Cook has committed to Syracuse, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett. Cook played the past two seasons at Texas before transferring to the Huskies in the fall portal window, but again entered his name in the spring.

Cook appeared in 20 games overall during his career in Austin. He finished with 16 catches for 273 yards and two touchdowns across the past two seasons. This past season Cook battled a toe injury and played in the first six games before sitting out the back half of the season.

Cook is the 12th player overall and the third receiver that Syracuse has added through the transfer portal, joining Tyshawn Russell and Chris Long. The Orange have also lost 22 players and rank No. 69 in On3’s Transfer Portal Team Rankings.

Syracuse is coming off of its first 10-win season since 2018 this past season and Cook will look to help the team carry that momentum over into this year. The Orange will also have a new quarterback after Kyle McCord left for the NFL.
