Report: Penn State head coach James Franklin has entered or withdrawn from the NCAA transfer portal

Penn State head coach James Franklin has entered or withdrawn from the NCAA transfer portal. The transfer portal pertains to student-athletes seeking to transfer between programs, not coaches. James Franklin has been the head coach at Penn State since 2014 and continues to lead the Nittany Lions football program.(SFGATE, The Pennsylvania State University)

In December 2024, Franklin did express concerns about the timing of the transfer portal in relation to the College Football Playoff. Backup quarterback Beau Pribula entered the portal before Penn State’s playoff game against SMU, leading Franklin to advocate for changes to the portal system to better support student-athletes and the sport overall. However, there have been no reports suggesting that Franklin himself has considered or entered the transfer portal.
