JUST IN: Tragedy Strikes — Gas Explosion in Miami Claims Lives of Jaceon Thomas and 73 Others

May 10, 2025 | Miami, FL — In a devastating turn of events, a powerful gas explosion tore through a Miami high-rise early this morning, killing 74 people, including Miami Dolphins star quarterback Jaceon Thomas, in what officials are calling one of the deadliest non-natural disasters in the city’s history.

The explosion occurred at Seabreeze Towers, a residential and commercial complex located in downtown Miami, just before 7:00 a.m. Witnesses described a deafening blast followed by fire and debris raining across several city blocks. Emergency services arrived within minutes, but the intensity of the blaze and partial building collapse hampered rescue efforts.

Authorities confirmed that Jaceon Thomas, 27, had been staying in the building’s penthouse unit. His body was recovered hours later by first responders. The Miami Dolphins organization and the NFL have since released statements mourning the loss of one of the league’s brightest talents.

“This is a heartbreaking day for Miami, for football, and for the many families who have lost loved ones,” said Miami Mayor Daniela Levine Cava during an emotional press conference. “We grieve together, and we will rebuild together.”

More than 50 others were injured, several critically, and dozens remain unaccounted for. Local hospitals are overwhelmed, and emergency shelters have been set up across the city to house those displaced by the blast.

Preliminary investigations suggest a ruptured underground gas line may have triggered the explosion, but officials from the Miami Fire Department and federal investigators are still working to determine the exact cause.

The city has declared a state of emergency, and flags across Florida will fly at half-staff in honor of the victims.

This is a developing story. More updates to follow as information becomes available.
