BREAKING NEWS: Tragedy Strikes Yankees’ Oswaldo Cabrera in Coma After Devastating On-Field Collapse

SEATTLE — May 13, 2025 — In a chilling and heartbreaking turn of events, New York Yankees infielder Oswaldo Cabrera has been placed in a medically induced coma following a traumatic on-field injury that left fans and teammates in disbelief.

The tragedy unfolded Monday night during the Yankees’ series opener against the Seattle Mariners. With the Yankees leading 11–5 in the ninth inning, Cabrera raced from third base on a deep sacrifice fly by Aaron Judge. As he dove toward home plate, his left leg caught awkwardly beneath him, snapping with a sickening crack that was audible throughout T-Mobile Park.

Stadium cameras cut away as medical staff rushed to the scene. Cabrera lay motionless on the ground, his face pale and his breathing shallow. Teammates immediately signaled for help. Within moments, he lost consciousness, prompting fears of a far more serious internal response.

Doctors at Harborview Medical Center confirmed early Tuesday that Cabrera suffered a compound fracture along with spinal trauma and went into neurogenic shock. He was stabilized but placed into a medically induced coma to manage the trauma and prevent further neurological damage.

“This is every manager’s nightmare,” said Yankees skipper Aaron Boone, visibly emotional during a late-night press briefing. “He’s more than a player to us. Oswaldo is the heart of this clubhouse.”

Players were seen holding each other in the dugout, some in tears. Aaron Judge removed his helmet and kneeled silently on the field as Cabrera was lifted into the ambulance.

Cabrera, 25, has been a key figure in the Yankees’ 2025 campaign and a fan favorite for his passion and versatility. The team has since canceled media availability and postponed pre-game activities for Tuesday’s matchup.

Messages of support have flooded in from across the baseball world, including rival teams and former players.

As of this morning, Cabrera remains in critical but stable condition. Doctors say the next 48 hours will be crucial.

The Yankees organization is asking fans to keep Oswaldo and his family in their thoughts during this deeply difficult time.
