BREAKING NEWS: Manny Pacquiao Returns to the Ring at 46, Set to Challenge for WBC Welterweight Title

In a stunning announcement that has sent shockwaves through the boxing world, legendary fighter Manny Pacquiao will return to the ring at the age of 46 to challenge for the WBC welterweight title. The bout is scheduled for July 19, 2025, in Las Vegas, and will be broadcast live on Prime Video pay-per-view.

Pacquiao, the only boxer in history to win world titles across eight weight divisions, hasn’t fought professionally since 2021, when he lost a decision to Yordenis Ugas. After announcing his retirement to focus on his political ambitions, few expected “Pac-Man” to lace up his gloves again—let alone for a title fight.

But the boxing icon has defied expectations once more. “I still have something to prove,” Pacquiao stated. “This is about legacy. I want to end my career with a championship.”

His opponent, Mario Barrios, is the reigning WBC welterweight champion and 17 years Pacquiao’s junior. Barrios, who captured the title in 2024, welcomed the matchup, calling it “an incredible honor to share the ring with a living legend.”

The World Boxing Council (WBC) has officially sanctioned the bout. President Mauricio Sulaiman defended the decision, saying, “Manny Pacquiao is timeless. His name alone elevates the sport.”

However, the announcement has drawn mixed reactions. While fans worldwide are celebrating the comeback of a true icon, some critics have questioned whether a fighter in his late 40s should be competing at the championship level—especially after several years of inactivity.

Still, Pacquiao remains undeterred: “I made history at 40. Why not do it again at 46?”

The undercard for the July 19 event is expected to include high-profile matchups, including a Sebastian Fundora vs. Tim Tszyu rematch and a possible clash between Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz and Angel Fierro.

With the boxing world buzzing, one thing is certain—Manny Pacquiao is back, and the world will be watching.
