BREAKING TRAGEDY: FBI Uncovers Cause of Jacksonville Airport Fire Amid Ongoing Investigation
Jacksonville, FL – May 19, 2025 — A major breakthrough has been made in the investigation into the massive fire that erupted at Jacksonville International Airport’s Hourly Parking Garage on May 16. The FBI has officially identified the origin of the blaze, which destroyed dozens of vehicles and led to the partial collapse of the garage’s upper floors.
Authorities now confirm the fire began in a single vehicle on the second level of the structure. While investigators are still working to determine whether the ignition was accidental or deliberate, federal involvement signals a growing concern over potential criminal activity.
“We believe the fire started with one vehicle and quickly spread due to the proximity of parked cars,” said Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Chief Keith Powers. “We are working closely with federal agents and structural engineers to continue assessing the damage.”
Due to the severity of the structural damage, crews have not been able to enter the garage. Instead, drone footage is being used to conduct inspections and search for possible victims, though no injuries have been reported.
The garage remains closed indefinitely, and travelers are urged to use off-site parking or rideshare services. The FBI and local authorities are continuing their investigation and are asking the public for any relevant information or eyewitness reports.
