JUST IN: Tragedy Strikes as Plane Crash in Miami Claims 473 Lives, 77 Injured, Four Officials Among the Hurt

Miami, FL – [May 20, 2025]

In what is being described as one of the deadliest aviation disasters in U.S. history, a commercial aircraft carrying 550 passengers crashed shortly after takeoff from Miami International Airport earlier this afternoon. Authorities have confirmed 473 fatalities and 77 individuals injured, including four government officials onboard.

The flight, identified as Liberty Air Flight 628, was en route to São Paulo, Brazil, when it reportedly experienced a catastrophic engine failure followed by a mid-air explosion, forcing the pilot to attempt an emergency landing in a densely populated industrial zone west of the city.

Witnesses described the harrowing scene as debris rained over several blocks, igniting fires and causing secondary damage to nearby structures. Emergency responders were dispatched within minutes, with more than 100 firefighters, paramedics, and law enforcement officials still at the scene late into the evening.

Miami-Dade Mayor Isabella Torres called the incident “an unfathomable tragedy” and declared a state of emergency. “We are coordinating all available resources to support the victims, their families, and investigate what went wrong,” she stated during a press conference.

The FAA and NTSB have launched a full investigation into the crash, with early reports suggesting possible mechanical failure combined with fuel system issues. President Robert McMillan has also issued a statement, calling for “a thorough and swift investigation” and offering federal support to the affected families.

Counseling centers and hotlines have been established across the region to assist those traumatized by the disaster. Flags are being flown at half-staff nationwide as the country mourns the unimaginable loss.
