What was meant to be a triumphant march to the national championship has turned into a day of mourning for the Alabama Crimson Tide community. In a shocking and tragic event, Courtney Morgan, the highly respected General Manager of the Alabama football program, was assassinated early Friday morning while en route to the team’s championship send-off event. Authorities have also confirmed that Morgan’s family, traveling separately, was abducted under still-unfolding circumstances.
Sources close to the investigation say Morgan’s vehicle was intercepted near I-20 by unknown assailants. Emergency services arrived within minutes, but Morgan was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds. The driver, whose identity is being withheld, was critically injured and remains under intensive care.
In a separate but likely coordinated attack, Morgan’s family was reported missing after their vehicle was found abandoned outside Birmingham with signs of a struggle. Law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, are actively involved in a statewide search and rescue operation.
Kalen DeBoer, Alabama’s head coach, released a brief statement: “We are devastated. Courtney was more than a colleague—he was family. Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones during this unimaginable time.”
