Johntay Cook II Re-Enters Transfer Portal After Brief Stint at Washington

Former Texas Longhorns wide receiver Johntay Cook II has re-entered the NCAA transfer portal, marking his second transfer in less than a year. After departing Texas in November 2024, Cook committed to the University of Washington in late December. However, his time with the Huskies was short-lived, as he left the program within weeks of his arrival .

Cook, a former five-star recruit from DeSoto, Texas, was initially highly sought after in the transfer portal. Predictions had linked him to several programs, including the Florida Gators, Oregon Ducks, and Texas A&M Aggies. Despite visiting Florida and meeting with quarterback DJ Lagway, Cook ultimately chose Washington .

During his two seasons at Texas, Cook recorded 16 receptions for 273 yards and two touchdowns. His limited playing time and subsequent transfers have raised questions about his fit within collegiate programs.

As Cook re-enters the transfer portal, it remains to be seen which programs will pursue the talented yet transient receiver. Florida, having previously shown interest, may reconsider, though their receiver room has become more crowded with recent additions .

Cook’s journey underscores the challenges and uncertainties inherent in the transfer portal era, where athletes seek optimal fits both on and off the field.
