Talanoa Hufanga, the former All-Pro safety, has explained his decision to join the Denver Broncos during the 2025 NFL free agency period. After a standout 2022 season with the San Francisco 49ers, Hufanga signed a three-year, \$45 million contract with the Broncos, including \$20 million guaranteed at signing .
In a recent interview, Hufanga shared that his choice was influenced by the Broncos’ commitment to building a championship-caliber defense and the opportunity to reunite with familiar faces. “It’s about the culture and the people,” Hufanga remarked. “I’ve played with Dre Greenlaw and D.J. Jones before, and I know the kind of impact they bring. Joining this defense felt like the right move for me.” Both Greenlaw and Jones, former teammates from the 49ers, also signed with the Broncos this offseason .
Broncos’ defensive tackle D.J. Jones praised the additions, stating, “We’re getting game-changers. These guys know ball, play ball at a high level, and all they want to do is ball.” The Broncos are hopeful that Hufanga can return to his 2022 form, where he recorded 97 tackles, four interceptions, and two sacks, earning first-team All-Pro honors .
As the 2025 season approaches, Hufanga’s health and performance will be crucial in determining the success of the Broncos’ revamped defense.
