On May 30, 2025, Michigan State football welcomed several key recruits for official visits, marking the beginning of a crucial summer recruiting period under head coach Jonathan Smith. Among the visitors, three stood out due to their potential impact on the Spartans’ future roster.
1. Darius Afalava – Offensive Lineman (Lehi, Utah)
Afalava, a 3-star recruit and one of the top offensive line prospects in the 2025 class, visited East Lansing as part of his official tour. Standing 6’5″ and weighing 280 pounds, Afalava holds offers from several major programs, including Oklahoma, Michigan, and LSU. His visit to Michigan State is significant, as he has a longstanding relationship with offensive line coach Jim Michalczik, who previously recruited him during their time at Oregon State. Afalava has expressed strong interest in the Spartans, citing their coaching philosophy and his rapport with Coach Michalczik as key factors in his recruitment.
2. LaRue Zamorano III – Cornerback (Corona, California)
Zamorano, a 3-star cornerback from Centennial High School, is considered one of Michigan State’s top defensive targets. At 6’2″ and 175 pounds, he brings size and skill to the secondary. The Spartans have gained momentum in his recruitment, especially after a strong unofficial visit in April. Zamorano is also being pursued by several Pac-12 schools, including USC, Washington, and Oregon, making this visit crucial for Michigan State to solidify their position.
3. Jayden Savoury – Tight End (Orchard Lake, Michigan)
Savoury, a 3-star tight end from Orchard Lake St. Mary’s, is a standout athlete who also excels in basketball. Standing 6’6″ and weighing 225 pounds, he is considered the top tight end in Michigan for the 2025 class. His versatility and athleticism make him a valuable prospect for the Spartans. Savoury has already visited Michigan State multiple times and is scheduled to take official visits to Wisconsin, Kansas, and Duke in June. He aims to make a final decision after these visits, with the Spartans positioning themselves as strong contenders.
These visits are part of Michigan State’s broader strategy to build a strong 2025 recruiting class. With over 40 official visits planned for June, the Spartans are working to establish a solid foundation for future success under Coach Smith’s leadership.
As the summer progresses, Michigan State will continue to evaluate and pursue top talent to enhance their football program’s competitiveness in the Big Ten and beyond.
