Michigan Wolverines head football coach Sherrone Moore is set to serve a two-game suspension during the 2025 season as part of the university’s self-imposed penalties related to the 2023 Connor Stalions sign-stealing scandal. Moore, who was the offensive coordinator at the time, allegedly deleted 52 text messages exchanged with Stalions, who orchestrated a scheme to film opposing teams’ sideline signals. The NCAA cited Michigan for 11 violations in connection with the incident and may still issue additional sanctions against Moore despite the university’s actions .
The suspension is scheduled for Weeks 3 and 4 of the 2025 season, during games against Central Michigan and Nebraska. Moore will continue to coach the first two games of the season against New Mexico and Oklahoma before serving his suspension. During the suspension, Moore is to refrain from all team-related activities. Although the NCAA may further penalize Moore, questions have arisen about whether any punishment is justified. Moore reportedly deleted 52 texts exchanged with Stalions, but Michigan asserts these messages were not relevant to the investigation. The school claimed the texts were innocuous and unrelated to the alleged in-person scouting activities, and that Moore cooperated fully with the inquiry .
In his first season as head coach, Moore led Michigan to a 7–5 regular-season record and a bowl victory over Alabama, with a noteworthy win against rival Ohio State. The Wolverines are expected to build on this success in the upcoming season.
