Photos Show Clothes Believed to Belong to Missing College Student Sudiksha Konanki on a Beach Chair: Report
Authorities in the Dominican Republic have discovered clothing believed to belong to missing University of Pittsburgh student Sudiksha Konanki on a beach chair near where she was last seen. The 20-year-old was reported missing on March 6 during a spring break trip to Punta Cana.
Images obtained by CDN show a white netted sarong draped over a beach chair and a pair of beige flip-flops covered in sand placed next to it. The beachwear closely resembles the outfit Konanki, 20, was last seen wearing in surveillance footage from the night of her disappearance. Investigators stated that the clothing appeared undisturbed.
Konanki was last seen around 5:50 a.m. on March 6 at the RIU República Hotel in Punta Cana. Surveillance footage captured her walking with Joshua Riibe, 22, a senior at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota, near the beach at 4:15 a.m. At one point, the two were seen holding hands, while Konanki’s other friends were nearby. Most of the group eventually returned to the hotel, leaving Konanki on the beach with Riibe, local media reported.
Riibe has been interviewed by authorities and is considered a person of interest in the case. He reported that they went for a swim and were pulled out by a strong tide; he last saw her walking in knee-deep water. Despite extensive searches by over 300 agents, Konanki has not been found. The investigation continues, with the U.S. State Department and the Indian Embassy involved.
Konanki’s parents have requested that she be officially declared dead, allowing them to begin the grieving process. They have urged authorities to explore all possibilities, including the potential for foul play.
The investigation remains active, with Dominican authorities continuing to search for Konanki’s body. The U.S. State Department and the Indian Embassy are also involved in the investigation.
