Here’s the latest update on the “Braves veteran” story:
Braves Veteran Unfortunately Just Spent His Last June with Atlanta
The Atlanta Braves are reportedly leaning toward trading veteran Marcell Ozuna before the end-of-June deadline, potentially marking his last June in Atlanta .
Ozuna, 34, has been a key offensive force since signing with the Braves ahead of the 2020 season. Over six seasons in Atlanta, he slashed .269/.349/.498 with 138 homers and 382 RBIs, earning an All-Star nod in 2024 with 39 home runs and 104 RBIs .
However, the 2025 campaign has been more modest: .247/.376/.401 with 11 homers and 40 RBIs through 78 games —still solid numbers but perhaps not enough for a team struggling to climb out of a 10.5-game NL East deficit and 7.5 games back for a wildcard .
Braves GM Alex Anthopoulos initially vowed they weren’t selling, but injuries—especially to ace Chris Sale—have forced a reassessment. Ozuna, purely a designated hitter lately (just 14 innings in the field since 2022), could draw interest from playoff-bound teams—though his limited defensive role means that only American League clubs, which use the DH, are likely candidates .
If the Braves decide to punt on 2025 and Ozuna becomes available, this June may indeed mark the final chapter of his tenure in Atlanta.
