College World Series home run record-holder, former Gator Ty Evans retires from baseball

Ty Evans, the former Florida Gators outfielder who etched his name in College World Series history by setting the single-season home run record, has announced his retirement from baseball. Evans made the announcement on Saturday, July 26, 2025, via a post on his personal X account, bringing an end to his playing career after exhausting his collegiate eligibility with the Gators.Evans leaves the game as the all-time leader in College World Series single-season home runs, having blasted five long balls during the 2023 CWS. This remarkable performance included a memorable grand slam in Game 2 of the championship series against LSU.Throughout his four seasons with the Florida Gators, Evans compiled a career batting average of .270 with 31 home runs and 128 RBIs. His junior year in 2024 was particularly strong, where he set career highs with a .316 batting average, 13 home runs, and 43 RBIs before an arm injury sustained in the 2024 MCWS curtailed his season. His production saw a slight dip in his final senior season in 2025, where he batted .263 with four home runs and 30 RBIs, although he did set a new career high with 11 doubles.Despite his collegiate accolades, Evans went undrafted in the 2025 MLB Draft, leading to his decision to step away from the sport. In his heartfelt message to Gator Nation, he expressed gratitude for his time at the University of Florida, calling it “the four most amazing years of my life” and thanking his teammates for the “life-long friendships” and “amazing memories.”
