The world of sports is in mourning following the sudden and tragic death of Norwegian alpine ski champion Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, who was found dead this afternoon in his private swimming pool. He was 32 years old.

 

According to emergency services, Kilde was discovered unresponsive at his home in Bærum around 3:15 p.m. local time. Despite immediate efforts by first responders, he was declared dead at the scene. Early reports suggest an accidental drowning, possibly linked to a sudden medical emergency, though a full investigation and autopsy are underway.

 

Kilde was one of the most accomplished skiers of his era, known for his speed, strength, and fearless racing style. He won the 2020 FIS Alpine World Cup overall title and numerous discipline globes, earning the admiration of fans and fellow athletes worldwide.

 

His death comes just months after his return to training, with hopes of making a full comeback for the 2025–26 season and representing Norway at the next Winter Olympics. His partner, American ski legend Mikaela Shiffrin, has not yet released a statement but is said to be surrounded by close friends and family during this unimaginable loss.

 

Norwegian sports officials and teammates have expressed deep grief.
