JUST IN: Tragedy Strikes as Gas Explosion Rocks Jaguars Rookie Minicamp — Multiple Confirmed Dead, Firefighters Battle Raging Blaze

Jacksonville, FL – May 10, 2025

A devastating gas explosion has rocked the Miller Electric Center during the Jacksonville Jaguars’ 2025 Rookie Minicamp, leaving the franchise, its fans, and the city of Jacksonville in mourning.

The explosion occurred shortly before 1:00 p.m. local time, just as preparations were underway for an open public session showcasing the Jaguars’ rookie class, including top draft pick Travis Hunter. According to early reports, a gas line rupture during pre-event maintenance is believed to have triggered the catastrophic blast, igniting a fast-moving fire that engulfed a large portion of the facility.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene, where they found flames bursting through the east wing of the stadium complex. Eyewitnesses described seeing thick black smoke billowing into the sky and hearing a “deafening boom” that shook nearby buildings.

As of this report, at least eight people have been confirmed dead, including construction crew members and Jaguars facility staff. Several others have been critically injured and are being treated at local hospitals. The identities of the victims are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Players and coaches who were inside the facility at the time of the explosion were quickly evacuated. Travis Hunter and head coach Doug Pederson are both confirmed safe. However, several rookies sustained injuries from falling debris and smoke inhalation.

Jaguars President Mark Lamping issued a brief but emotional statement:

> “Today is one of the darkest days in our organization’s history. We are devastated by the loss of life and extend our prayers and deepest sympathies to all affected.”

The NFL has been notified and is reportedly coordinating with local authorities and the Jaguars front office. All Rookie Minicamp activities have been indefinitely suspended as investigations begin into the cause and accountability of the explosion.

Local fire officials say it may take days to fully extinguish interior flare-ups and assess structural damage to the Miller Electric Center. Early speculation suggests a technician mistakenly engaged a pressurized gas line during last-minute setup for outdoor media equipment.

The tragedy has stunned the NFL community, casting a dark shadow over what was meant to be a celebratory introduction for Jacksonville’s newest players.

Further updates will follow as more information becomes available.
