
BREAKING TRAGEDY: Ohio Train Crash Kills Two, Toddler Injured, Child Missing
FREMONT, OH — On the evening of May 18, 2025, a Norfolk Southern train struck a family walking across the Mile Newton Bridge in Fremont, Ohio, resulting in a heartbreaking tragedy. Two people lost their lives, a toddler was seriously injured, and a 5-year-old child remains missing.
The victims are identified as a 58-year-old woman and her 38-year-old daughter from Fort Wayne, Indiana, who were reportedly out for a fishing trip. The force of the collision caused the family to fall into the Sandusky River below the bridge. Emergency responders rescued a 1-year-old child and rushed them to a hospital in Toledo. However, a 5-year-old boy is still unaccounted for, prompting an active search operation involving dive teams and local authorities.
Fremont Mayor Danny Sanchez expressed deep sorrow over the incident, calling it a devastating loss for the community. Norfolk Southern officials extended their condolences and pledged full cooperation with investigators as the cause of the accident is being examined.
