Clemson Transfer Tré Williams Brings Veteran Presence to Michigan’s Defensive Line
Michigan football has bolstered its defensive line for the 2025 season with the addition of Tré Williams, a graduate transfer from Clemson. Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 315 pounds, Williams brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record to the Wolverines.
A Seasoned Contributor
During his tenure at Clemson, Williams appeared in 44 games, starting four, and accumulated 42 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, four sacks, two pass breakups, and three fumble recoveries over 722 defensive snaps. In the 2024 season, he recorded 16 tackles, including three for loss, two sacks, two fumble recoveries, and two pass deflections.
Injury Challenges and Redemption
Despite his impressive statistics, Williams’ career at Clemson was marred by injury setbacks that limited his playing time. However, when healthy, he showcased his potential, notably recording two sacks against Texas in the College Football Playoff.
A Strategic Addition for Michigan
With the departures of standout defensive tackles Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant, Williams’ experience and versatility are expected to play a crucial role in Michigan’s defensive schemes. His ability to contribute both as a run stopper and a pass rusher adds depth and flexibility to the Wolverines’ defensive line.
As Michigan aims to contend for a spot in the College Football Playoff, Williams’ leadership and on-field prowess will be integral to the team’s success in the upcoming season.
