Michigan Football Officially Hires Chip Lindsey as Offensive Coordinator

The University of Michigan has officially announced the hiring of Chip Lindsey as its new Sanford Robertson Offensive Coordinator and Robert McCollum Family Quarterbacks Coach. Lindsey, 50, brings over 27 years of collegiate coaching experience to Ann Arbor, including successful tenures at North Carolina, UCF, Auburn, and Troy. His appointment follows the dismissal of former offensive coordinator Kirk Campbell after a challenging 2024 season.

Lindsey’s most recent role was as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of North Carolina, where he served from 2023 to 2024. Under his guidance, the Tar Heels achieved a balanced offensive attack, averaging 32.3 points and 423.4 yards per game in 2024. Notably, the team led the ACC in rushing offense with 189.5 yards per game, while the passing game contributed an average of 233.9 yards per contest. This performance was highlighted by the development of quarterback Drake Maye, who was selected as the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Prior to his time at North Carolina, Lindsey held offensive coordinator positions at UCF, Auburn, Arizona State, and Southern Miss. At UCF in 2022, he led an offense that ranked 26th nationally in scoring and 11th in total offense. During his tenure at Auburn, he directed an offense that became the first in SEC history to rush and pass for over 3,000 yards in a season.

Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore expressed confidence in Lindsey’s ability to revitalize the Wolverines’ offense, stating, “We share the same philosophy regarding structure, scheme, and player development, and I know his leadership of the offense will place our players in the best position to succeed.”

Lindsey’s hiring comes at a pivotal time for Michigan football. The team is set to welcome five-star quarterback recruit Bryce Underwood for the 2025 season, following his commitment after decommitting from LSU. However, the Wolverines will need to address the departures of key players, including running backs Donovan Edwards and Kalel Mullings, top wide receiver Tyler Morris, and potentially tight end Colston Loveland, who may enter the NFL Draft.

With his extensive experience and proven track record, Chip Lindsey is poised to lead Michigan’s offense into a new era of success.
