Falcons Rally Behind Coach Raheem Morris After Playoff-Less Season Ends vs. Panthers
The Atlanta Falcons concluded their 2024 season with a 44–38 overtime loss to the Carolina Panthers, marking their seventh consecutive year without a playoff berth. Despite the team’s disappointing 8–9 record, players expressed strong support for first-year head coach Raheem Morris.
Rookie quarterback Michael Penix Jr. showcased his potential, throwing for 312 yards and two touchdowns in the final game. Head coach Morris praised Penix’s performance, stating, “The light at the end of the tunnel for us… is the quarterback.”
Running back Bijan Robinson, who rushed for a career-high 170 yards and two touchdowns in the season finale, emphasized the team’s unity and commitment to improvement. He highlighted the positive culture fostered by Morris and general manager Terry Fontenot, noting, “I love every single player in here, every single coach in here.”
Despite external criticism, the Falcons’ locker room remains confident in Morris’s leadership. Left guard Matthew Bergeron remarked, “You can feel it on the inside… we’re just a few steps away from being that team that we’re supposed to be.”
As the offseason begins, Morris is focused on building upon the team’s foundation and addressing areas for improvement. He emphasized the need to “find a way to get there” and continue the growth mindset established during the season.
The Falcons are already evaluating their roster and coaching staff, with plans to make necessary adjustments to build a competitive team for the 2025 season.
