
Dominican Resort Faces Backlash Amid Sudiksha Konanki’s Ongoing Disappearance
The Riu República resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, is under intense scrutiny following the mysterious disappearance of 20-year-old University of Pittsburgh student Sudiksha Konanki. Konanki vanished on March 6 after entering the beach area with friends during a spring break trip. Surveillance footage shows her leaving the beach with a man, who later claimed they were caught in rough waves. He said he lost her in the water and woke up alone on the beach .
The resort has come under fire for promoting property flash sales on TikTok while the investigation is ongoing. Advertisements offering discounted rates at the Riu República hotel were posted on social media platforms, prompting criticism that the company was prioritizing marketing over assisting authorities in the search for Konanki .
Dominican authorities, in collaboration with the FBI, have conducted extensive search operations, including aerial and marine searches, but have found no trace of Konanki . Her parents have requested that she be officially declared dead to begin the grieving process .
The case has drawn international attention, with the FBI issuing spring break travel warnings and advising travelers to exercise caution .
As the investigation continues, the resort’s promotional activities remain a point of contention, with many questioning the ethics of advertising during such a sensitive time.
