Florida’s Pete Alonso selected for 5th MLB All-Star Game, will sit out Home Run Derby……

The New York Mets first baseman has been selected as a National League reserve for the 2025 MLB All-Star Game in Atlanta, marking his fifth career appearance. This season, Alonso is slashing an impressive .287/.380/.543, with 20 home runs and 73 RBIs across 91 games.
Despite being a two-time Derby champion (2019, 2021) and participating in every event since 2019, Alonso has decided to skip the Home Run Derby scheduled for July 14 at Truist Park.
He explained that he didn’t “fully enjoy the three off‑days” and wants to use the All‑Star break to rest, recover, and prepare for the second half of the season. “It’s the adrenaline spikes,” he shared, emphasizing the need to maintain peak performance for the Mets.
Alonso made it clear that this is by no means a permanent decision. He’s left the door open to returning—especially if the event is hosted at stadiums like Citi Field, Fenway Park, or Wrigley Field, which hold personal appeal.
