Following the disruption of the World Snooker Championships, two persons appear in court.

Following a Just Stop Oil protest that interrupted the World Snooker Championship, a student and a former museum employee appeared in court.

Edred Ilmari Heath Whittingham, a university student, appeared at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday to answer to charges of criminal damage.

Margaret Reid, a former museum employee, also appeared in court to answer to charges of attempting to cause criminal damage.

Each entered a not guilty plea.

On April 17, 2023, a man donning a Just Stop Oil T-shirt into the Crucible venue in Sheffield and threw orange paint powder onto one of the tables, interrupting the match between Robert Milkins and Joe Perry.

Referee Olivier Marteel tackled a woman, stopping her from pulling off a similar trick on the opposite table.

District Judge Daniel Curtis granted unconditional bail to Whittingham, 26, of May Street, Exeter, and Reid, 53, of Low Fellside, Kendal, Cumbria, pending their trial on May 10 in the same court.
