Since we are currently in the All-Star break, the 2023–24 season is officially halfway over. TSN has unveiled its Top 25 NHL Players Rankings for the campaign as a result.
Center Nathan MacKinnon of the Colorado Avalanche took first place, followed by superstars Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers, Nikita Kucherov of the Tampa Bay Lightning, Auston Matthews of the Toronto Maple Leafs, and Cale Makar of the Avalanche. Nevertheless, Tage Thompson and Rasmus Dahlin, the two best players on the Sabres, were left off the roster.
With 13 goals and 38 points in 48 games, Dahlin, 23, is enjoying a strong offensive season. He is tenth in points among players at his position, thus even though his production pace is slower than it was in the previous season (73 points in 78 games), he is still one of the NHL’s most influential offensive defenseman.
This season, Thompson, 26, has somewhat regressed offensively. With 94 points and 47 goals in 78 games the previous season, it was expected that he would be a formidable force for the Sabres. Nevertheless, he only has 14 goals and 28 points in 39 games this season.
Ultimately, given that TSN’s ranking is based on players’ performances this season, it makes sense that neither Dahlin nor Thompson were included on the list. Dahlin has been a productive scorer, but Victor Hedman, the final defenseman listed at number 23, has nine goals and fifty points in 48 games. At this juncture in the season, Thompson is far from being a player who scores points every game.
