RJ Davis is reportedly returning to UNC for a fifth season in 2024, according to reports. The Tar Heel guard has a Covid year that allows him to use an extra year of eligibility, and Davis appears to have decided to do just that.

Matt Norlander of CBS stated Tuesday afternoon that Carolina would receive extra good news as Seth Trimble decided to withdraw his name from the transfer portal and return to Chapel Hill. A source apparently told Norlander that RJ would make a statement in the coming days.

RJ’s comeback is undoubtedly significant for Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels. RJ found his stride playing off the ball the majority of the time, with rookie Elliot Cadeau running point for the Heels. Davis was a top contender for National Player of the Year and a unanimous first-team All-American. Bringing that experience back to Chapel Hill with new arrivals such as Ian Jackson and Drake Powell will be tremendously beneficial.

There will definitely be doubts about RJ’s playing time in the backcourt and whether he can replicate his performance in 2023. What is apparent is that, with RJ back, the Tar Heels will have one of the top backcourts in the country and will be a popular option for one of the best teams.
